Fermentation in the Heat of Summer
by Davin on Jul.30, 2009, under Fermentation
So another brew has started at my place and since it’s the middle of a blazing hot summer, I’m cranking out a lighter beer that should be ready by mid August to enjoy just at the end of the hight temps as things start to cool down. I’m ultra-pumped, to say the least. I’ve never made a Canadian Blonde before and I’m exited to see how it turns out. here’s some shots of the first stages last night. it was somewhere in the area of.. oh.. a million degrees in my apartment when I did this:

It’s been too long since I last did this. I must be like… a month? maybe two? I really cannot express how true it is when you look at the back of a bottle of booze and read the lines “and then our brewmaster became obsessed with crafting the best _______ he could, resulting in the drink you now hold in your hands.” because, let me tell you, that shit is true. yYou get hooked on making this stuff, and then trying to make it better. It’s not even funny.
if I wasn’t so into media, I would 110% be looking into getting my foot in the door with craft breweries in my area. Or… you never know.. I still might.
Six Acres Gastropub Review
by Davin on May.15, 2009, under Fermentation, Whatever
A little while back, my girlfriend and I went to see if Star Trek was playing in the theatre we like going to, only to discover that we were a week too early. In finding this out, we decided to spend the evening at a pub instead. We sought out looking for something new and interesting and ended up huffing it down to Gastown and sitting down for a few pints at Six Acres.

Six Acres is just sublime! I’ve had a tip about it some time ago but never really had my schedule sync with Jen’s to really make a serious effort to go, and I don’t think I can recommend it enough. If you are the type of person who was disappointed at the changes that were made to The Irish Heather, then this place is the place for you. It’s in the centre of Gastown, right at the foot of the Gassy Jack statue and the building just drips of old, worn wood and brick. But, the total clincher for this place’s character isn’t just the cool staff, the Gastown look, the casual atmosphere or the amazing selection of excellent craft beers, but it’s the Menus they have.
Their menus are bound in old, vintage books that they have recycled. It may not sound like much here, but when you sit down at a dark brown wood table and they hand you a hardcover copy of Othello to flip through for what to eat and what to drink?
I’m sorry but that completely won me over, right then and there. All I really have to say after that is “Goodbye Irish Heather, and hello Six Acres”.
it’s coming.. I swear!

Okay, so here it is: my newest foray into building a somewhat regular place on the web. I’m going to try and treat this like a somewhat legitimate weekly publication with as many quality updates as I can coherently scribe out into this Wordpress control panel as much as I can. I’ve built this, obviously, on Wordpress and used a hack-n-slash version of Pixeled I mutilated for the theme and shoved in some graphics I had made in Photoshop behind the whole thing to make it look a little on the cool side. This blog is graciously hosted by Pixelghetto Design Studios so if you like what I ramble on about here and figure you can build yourself a blog and do something similar you would be doing yourself a favour and have them host, design and even build your future website. They do good work.
But visit often! this blog is updated every Saturday and will generally post live when breaking tech & media news breaks. I have a feeling you’ll like reading it.
